Hi, welcome to another exciting video post on dreamweaver. Today we are going to learn site creation in Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. There are cool easy methods in Dreamweaver using which we can easily create websites. In this tutorial I am gonna show you some common Dreamweaver tools used to create simple but unique websites.

I also have a video of the process, that I have posted here. Just go through it,

The first former and most important step in any project is the process to setting up a Dreamweaver site definition. Site definition allows Dreamweaver to see all of your files as a part of single project. This enables to check, links, and missing files, generate reports, upload your files to a web server, and gives you access to reusability features, such as web templates and libraries. Dreamweaver sites also helps to keep files organized under a single project folder, which is essential ensuring everything works is ensured when you copy up to a live web server. Dreamweaver sites definitions can be created from the site menu on top choose site, new site. Or from the welcome page, which appear in the application when first launches. For this example choose Dreamweaver site from the bottom of the create new column from the welcome screen.

The site definition panel appears, and in basic mode its gonna walk you through all steps need to create a complete site definition. First Dreamweaver wants to know what you like to name your site. And this could be anything as long as it makes sense to you. So for the sake of the example I am gonna call this my website.

The next field asks you what is the http address or URL of your website. If you have it registered domain, yet you don’t know what the URL is, you can always add it later. If you do however, go ahead and put it in. go ahead and click next, to move to the next step. Next Dreamweaver wants to know if you want to work with serve technology such as, Fusion, ASP.Net, ASP, JSP, or PHP. These are server side technology which may not be you using it. If you are on a way what type of technology you say is this or you are pretty sure you are not going to use one, brief no checked and click next to move to the next step.

Next Dreamweaver wants to know how you gonna work with files during development. Most commonly, you are going to add local copies from your machine, and then upload them to server when the project is complete. You can also add directly using the server using a local network. In other words, if your production development server is located within the same building, you can access them over the network. You can select this option. For now Leave edit local copies on my machine selected. Below Dreamweaver asks where on your computer you wanna store you files. By default, Dreamweaver picks up a safe location and creates a new folder by the same name as your site definition. This is great if you are starting from the scratch. However if already you have a folder set up, and you have already start accumulate and pull together your assets and resources, you can let Dreamweaver know where that folder is, by clicking on folder icon and browsing for it from your local hard drive. For now I am gonna start from scratch, so let Dreamweaver create a folder at a default location and click next to move ahead.

Dreamweaver wants to know how you want to connect with your remote server. Now you don’t have a remote server or web hosting account set up yet, go ahead, click the menu and select none. If you do have a server or a web hosting account set up, you can choose one of the following options here. Typically you are going to use FTP (file transfer protocol), to connect and to copy files between the remote server and your local machine. To see other works go ahead and select FTP and you will see Dreamweaver needs some more information, so can make a connection to your remote server. First, it asks about the host or FTP web server address of your web server. This could be a numerical address or an IP address. Or it could be your domain name preceded by the FTP prefix. If you are not sure, contact your hosting company or the administrator. In some cases, you may have to copy your files on a specific location of a server, if so enter that directory of folder here.

Next, you need to provide Dreamweaver with the login name and password, so it can connect to your remote web server. If you are not sure you can leave it blank and enter it later, if you do know go ahead and enter it now. Now to keep from entering the password again in future, leave the save option checked. Go ahead and click next to move to next step. Here Dreamweaver lets you choose, if you like to use its built in check in and chick out feature, which is great when you are sharing your work with other designers, and location. Check in and check out make sure that two people can overwrite the same file at the same time. If you do unable check in check out, click yes, if not leave no selected, click next to move to the next step.

The file of panel is the summary of panel. Here, Dreamweaver reviews all the options, chosen in the previous step. If you are happy with everything, setup, go ahead, and click done. You need to go back and change something use the back button to move backwards to find the information you need to change. Go ahead and click complete to create your site delimitation. Look at your file panel in the right side of the screen, it displays the new site definition file and this current local file if any under your root folder. Now you ready to go to the work.

The following is an extremely helpful tutorial on Dreamweaver. It will help beginners who are working with Dreamweaver. It tells you how to add an image to a Dreamweaver page in two ways, either by using the insert option or drag and drop option.

It also tells you which option is better to use and how to add text in place of the image. With a simple and stepwise explanation, you can learn how to add images. This article also provides an example with the help of which it explains the entire procedure to you.

There are two main ways of adding an image to a Dreamweaver page. You can either use insert image or you can drag and drop. To insert an image you can either use the insert menu, insert image or in the insert panel go to the common section and here you will find the images icon and you can either click on the icon or click on the drop down menu to choose image. Here you navigate to the images folder, find the image that you want. A preview of the image is displayed for you and you can click ok. Whenever you insert an image, if Dreamweaver’s accessibility options are activated, which they should be, you will be asked to insert the alternate text.

This is a description of your image, which helps to increase the accessibility of your site. For e.g. here we are on Google and you can see we have the Google logo. If I switch off images by going into Firefox’s ToolsOptions, and in the content area, switch off the option to load images automatically, and someone might do this if they were using a very slow connection to the internet and were finding it difficult to get anywhere because of the time it takes to download images.

You will see now, that if I hit the refresh button, the Google logo disappears but there is still a piece of text that describes the logo. Alternate text is also essential to assist any one who is using a screen reader to navigate your web pages. The screen reader relies on the alternate text to give a description of the image to the person browsing your site. So it is very useful that Dreamweaver displays this window for you. And you could just type in a short description of that particular image. Okay, so that is the insert method. That’s undo and let’s look at drag and drop.

You can use the drag and drop technique from two places. The files panel and the assets panel. To make either of these visible go to the Window menu and choose files or assets. To drag and drop an image onto the page from the files menu, find the image and simply drag it into the appropriate section of your page. Enter your alternate text and click ok. Let’s undo and let’s look at the equivalent in the assets panel. The assets panel is basically a database in which Dreamweaver keeps a record of all the various types of assets that you have available within your current site. And this applies not just to images. As you can see, there are several categories of assets that Dreamweaver will keep track of. And if you want to reuse these assets on several different pages, the assets panel offers a very convenient way of doing this.

When adding an image by dragging and dropping it onto the page the assets panel offers two main advantages over the files panel. First of all, as you can see a preview is displayed as you click on each image and secondly it doesn’t matter where within your site the image is located. Dreamweaver will find all images in the current site and display them in the assets panel. As your site gets larger and you have more and more images, you should get into the habit of hitting the refresh button, which just enables Dreamweaver to update its list of images and make a note of any changes that have occurred such as deletion of images, replacement, or change in the name of an image.

When you hit the refresh button Dreamweaver tracks all those changes and updates the preview. Another thing about the preview is that as you increase the preview area, you get a larger preview. To add the image to the page, you either drag the preview or the file name and drop it into the appropriate area of your page.
