Table of contents for 4D Ajax for Dreamweaver Demo

4D Ajax for Dreamweaver

4D Ajax for Dreamweaver Pt.2

4D Ajax for Dreamweaver Pt.3

Now the third and final step is to just choose which object to embed. .mmm.. We can choose from the data grid, a calendar, a data tree, a data matrix and an image matrix.

For today, we are just going to embed the data grid so lets have that done and this dialog comes up. Here we can choose which table or DDW or DCS or which view to embed. Today I am going to choose the customer table. We can also select advanced settings but I won’t touch any that anyone today. If anything I’ll change will be the width and the height. So now some codes have been added in the body element and the div class to display the data grid and on the top I am going to drop the script to see where we traded the data grid object.

It’s very necessary and common to show where the codes stared and ended. And that’s all we have to do three steps to embed an object. So we save this HTML file in our web route I’ll call it grid. We should be able to see our object. So lets go to our browser and connect to the HTML page we just created… and there we go. Our live data grid in our HTML page. All the functionality of a normal data grid in the 4D Ajax client environment we can add a record and you can create one and you can do one live searching.

So..thats all our demo tutorial for the 4D Ajax Dreamweaver extension which is displayed how to easily embed a live 4D Ajax object into a HTML page.

We are assuming that the installation was a success so we let along and get started plying around Dreamweaver.

So to get started lets create a new HTML document. Let me move this over. Now just…we just opened a HTML template so really there is no content in it right now. At the top, you notice the seven buttons for the 4D Ajax extension. Now to embed the 4D Ajax object it really only takes three steps to get that object onto the HTML page. Ahhmm…first step involves importing structure. So lets do that.. to that we have to go to and we have to select the support folder next to our..mm..our 4D structure. Extra support and there it is. Lets hit the select button and our structure is imported. The second step is to enter the log in information.

So now, here we have to enter the log information as user connects to the HTML page. Hmm…for demonstration purposes lets have them log in as administrator and we click OK. Now some codes have been added to the page. The only code that’s concerns us really is the function for dexload. And the code added in the body look for the on loading okay.

In case you didn’t see the video in part 1 of this series… here it is again

Now we know how to set up a site.

Let’s take a look at some of the general preferences inside a dream weaver. To access we go the edit menu and then down to preferences. Dream weaver has preferences settings that control the general appearance and behavior of the dream weaver for user interface, as well as options relate to specific features, such as code covering, code format, CSS style, different editors; that you will be using along with dream weaver such as fireworks and also what browsers you like to preview your pages in and much more.

Next let took at the result panel, the result panel is found below the properties inspector if its not displaying by default you can come to window and go to results hit F7. The search tab inside the results panel gives you the abilities to seraph your tabs and attributes as well as specific text within tags. The validation tabs, you can see the check for code and syntax errors. The browser compatibility check tab allows you to test HTML in your documents. To ensure that all your tabs needs to be used are supported by your target browsers.

Next, the link checker allows you to check for broken, external, and orphan links. We also have the reside reports tab. inside the report tabs you can really improve workflow and test HTML attributes in your site. Workflow reports include checked out by, designed notes, and recently modified, accessibility and more. The reference panel provides you with a quick reference to all from mark up languages, programming languages and CSS styles. In order to use the reference panel, you will need to be in code view and any tag you select on the screen can right click on it, go to reference and it will display the description of that tag and also particular attributes that can be used inside that tag. Next lets talk about codes inhibits.

Codes inhibits can be found in the file panel. Codes inhibits are used to store contents for quick reuse. You can create a new snippet, edit, insert or delete snippets at you leisure. To use a snippet it simply double clicks on the snippet and it inserts or pushes that code inside that snippet to your page.

Finally, lets a look at the code tool bar the coding tool bar contains buttons that you can perform many standard coding operations such as code collapsing and expanding highlighting invalid code as well as applying moving comments, indenting code and inserting recently used snip its. In order to use the code tool bar you will need to be in code view.

You can also set up a new site edit an existing site, duplicate or move a site and also export a site as a *.ste file and import *.ste files back in the dream weaver. Let’s click on new, the basic tab takes us through a wizard like interface to set up our site definition or we can use the advanced tab. All you need to do to set up a site definition is to enter any local information you can come back later to set up the remote information we are gonna be connecting to a FTP or other type of remote server.

If you gonna be processing dynamic pages like ASP, co-fusion, JSP, or PHP you want to set up a testing server to unlock some additional features inside dream weaver CS3.

Two panel accordion is inserted on the page lets save this and look at it actually live to give you a better idea what it looks like and when you save it you basically also ask if you want to save the special files are requires to get this to work so we did and lets preview in a browser as you can see this new page in a browser..ah…that has two panels. These panels are open and close when you click on them really cool stuff and what i have used these for are to create multi choice questions.

so to do that i enter in the question and the default open panel that the that’s by default open on one of the web page so i am typing the question and the question is What is my favorite color? And the rest of the panels i used to show the answers before this first panel answer is red and it is eye icon in the lower right side that opens up the panel at..a..is associated with that header so i will type in that the answer is incorrect. I will also add couple of more panels so i can have more answers to this question and so here is answer yellow which is incorrect eye icon which opens up the panel and type in the answer green which is incorrect.

Its there now i have a multi choice question which can use in a quiz now take a look at it live so here is the question and you can choose an answer another answer or another answer so this is a great tool for you to be able to use thanks

Let’s take a look. So here we have dreamweaver CS3 open and its just a blank HTML page that is open right now its been opened and saved and you can see up in the tool bar there is a new tab for spray, spry functionality and spry basically has three groups of little widgets that you can drop into a HTML page..a..the left most grouping is of content, display, functionality we wont be looking at that the middle part is all formed validation functionality which we will be also not looking at on the right hand side is a group of widgets that we have are used to create navigation and content packets.

These are things like tabs and little boxes that can open and close dynamically. Really cool visual functionality that a spry let you do and for our purposes we would be inserting an accordion.
