This video is going to show you how to use cells optoin in Dreamweaver. This is an important property of a Dreamweaver, which you need to understand thoroughly. Lets see the video, this will guide you through the method.

Now I need a few more cells in this area of my tables so if I place my cursor in here I can split this cell by using the split cell button and if I want 2 rows click ‘ok’. And then if I want more columns across here cause this is where I’m going to put my thumbnails, I can use that button again or I can just right click ‘Table’, ‘Split Cell’ and I want 5 columns. And Dreamweaver should evenly space those columns across there. Now sometimes Dreamweaver develops a mind of its own and creates those columns a little off size. As soon as you put content in them and as long as there is nothing happening behind the scenes that’s controlling the width of these , if we split the screen here and we look at what’s happening behind the scenes ,each of these cells is being automatically sized because there is no size property specified in this TD tag. But sometimes Dream Weaver will still give you different size cells even when there is nothing on the code to warrant that. Don’t worry about it if that happens to you as you are playing around with the table.
Just as soon as you get your content in the place it should even itself out. You can also size cells manually. So if I know that I want this left cell to be 300 pixels say instead of 385 then I can use the properties inspector and just change that number to 300 or I can click and drag. One other thing to be careful of if you make a left cell 300, look and see if there is a size for the right cell. I know the total size of this table is 800 so if I have a 300 pixel cell in the left then I either need to add a 500 pixel cell in the right so that the total is 800 or I need to have it set to nothing which tells the browser to automatically fill that in the rest of the space. But it’s very easy as we start splitting and merging cells and this is kind of an advanced tip. To create cells with fixed width that equals more or less than the total size of the table and when you do that you get very unpredictable results. So notice I have been very careful that the left cell is 300, the right cell is set to nothing and these are equally spaced because they are also set no width no height. A couple of other things to watch for when you are creating complex tables like this notice that when I put my cursor on the left side I am aligned vertically to the top and horizontally to the left. But over here remember in the previous design we wanted this aligned bottom so that the text will leave kind of a gap at the top kind of a design trick. But now I am going to want this aligned to the top so make sure that you change that. And this time I am going to select all of these cells and I can apply the vertical alignment to all of them once. The other thing I want to do to these cells on the right is to center them. So that when I put the images inside them they will all be centered. So I can do that with horizontal center. Now when I place my photos into these cells they will all be nicely equally spaced apart. One other tip I could have created is nested tables here for this row of cells and that would have been perfectly correct in terms of HTML. But you see this row it is slightly more efficient to split and merge cells in one table than to have two tables within tables as nested tables. Browsers will load the pages a little faster the code will be a little cleaner. So whenever you cam you are better of splitting and merging cells within an existing table than using that trick of just inserting a completely new table into a cell.

Keep this file size down a bit after tag i want to make sure its content that’s its important that its not does not say header in there. Footer i am gonna call it new defaults and give it a background black and go to my box and make it 100 wide also, gonna make it 50 tall and same for my margins right margins auto auto ok ok. So there is my black flitters get rid of the text in there ok. Now, i have got just an image over here its nothing i am gonna drag it into my header just to show how i drop my image in there just tell after to save my document.

That’s fine and i am gonna name it logo and click ok and you get smaller here just grab in the edges to stretch it, while i am gonna select the image i am gonna go down to properties box give it i a vertical space 10 just leave that, that can be adjusted to however you want it move it around give of horizontal spaces 8. Ok so we are just gonna move in that in a drum that’s fine and in my container I wanna a line 2 images up on the right side. so i am gonna make sure i am in my container and if i want to do that i am always go up into my code and make sure its right there in my container tag and it is.

So i am in insert add insertion point call it right click new defaults ok and on the box this time i am gonna give it a 300 pixels wide a 600 hundred tall and i am gonna float to the right. no margins i am gonna click on ok and let me get a little background color so it just stands out ok then ok all right now i have this content container here for my images and then all you need to do is set for 2 images both 300 by 300 pixels wide in tall.

So all i would have to do is take my images from my files panel over here drag them in here they would stack on top of each other nicely and what i could do over here for..a..

And the first thing i am going to do is select on my insert dig tag i am gonna do it add insertion point and name it container.

Then i am gonna say new CSS scroll. This document only advanced there to 14. Then i am using my container tag. Ok gonna go to background make it white. gonna go to box make it 800 pixels long 600 pixels tall i am gonna deselect the same for all and make my left and right margin auto. click ok and and there i have my center content dig tag gotta insert another dig tag and i am going to tell it to go before tag make sure it says container and i am gonna call this one header.

New advanced tab select this document only ok. Background i am gonna just do that blue and box i am gonna name it 100X200 and i am gonna do the same thing with the margin here. Auto, auto ok, ok. So now i have a header and content container bar here, container tag here just gonna give some text.

Ok then I am gonna find my CSS style sorry had a little issue with the computer one I locked upon up here.

Wow, that was a train wasn’t it? I was using a low resolution kind of messes me up sometimes. Ok, sorry we are going to attach the style sheet make sure that you find the one in the spray assets folder called spry menu horizontal choose them click ok all right. So now you will see were formatted. I am gonna see that library. When I create a new page, to save the HTML page ok. I am gonna save it as just YouTubesample.HTML Ok and i am gonna move my CSS all over here. Flip over to assets you will see the library that we just created listed. Drag that onto your page you will see the same thing happen. No style is defined so we just need to go and do the same thing.

You have to do this on every page you have to make sure that this horizontal style sheet is attached on your page its formatted one more thing missing and that’s the little script that tells it to pop up those drop downs when you have progress so we are gonna go back to the spry.html that i originally had created and placed the spray menu bar in we created all this code. I am just gonna copy this that is right into the title I am gonna go on to my YouTube sample page, the HTML page and then put it in the same place here ok.

So now everything is done you don’t have to have that script in your library page but you do have to make sure that on all the HTML pages so the key is attaching that style sheet and attaching that script to all your pages. So, now when you make any changes here, cnahge item 1 to home. Ok I am gonna do a save all should bring up.. yep its gonna update my YouTube sample. Yes, I want to update that give it a second ok its updated I do another save all because then your HTML page needs save and you will see hereit says home.

So now all you have to do to update all of your pages all the navigation on your pages is just updated one library page to preco-option. One thing I do want to say about using this type of navigation if your concerned about all your optimization about search engines you might want to research it before you choose to use a sprite menu bar or flash or anything else like that because the search engines cannot read the text within the.

So just might wanna do some research to do other than that I hope that this answers the question out there. thank you very much.
