So for the moment let us just stay in design mode. Now I have mentioned that these three buttons are available in the document toolbar. And just to remind you, toolbars are made visible by going to View the Toolbars. And here you will see that the document toolbar is checked because it is currently visible.

One of the basic features within DreamWeaver is the ability to work in either code, design or split view.

When working in design view elements that you place on the page are shown within DreamWeaver approximately, as they will be displayed in the browser window. So for example if I insert an image, you will notice that the image immediately displays approximately as it will within the browser window. How to switch now to split view? And you can see that the image is highlighted having just been inserted it is also highlighted in code.
